About My Holiday Cards
Cards from Christmas's Past
Every year about this time, I rack my brain for an idea. A new
message and image to convey in my annual greeting cards. Well, it
started off harmless enough. The first year I drew a picture of some of
my favorite Disney characters. Then I did the Muppets. Then I tried
some Christmas scenes before moving into more abstract things. If I had
enough memory available on my internet accounts, I would scan the other
images in, but alas... I should also mention that it is tradition that my
cards not look too polished. This is mostly because I have no artistic
ability whatsoever. Also contributing to the general shoddiness of my
cards is the fact that I always wait until the last minute to put them
together.
This year's card
This year I decided to do something a little different. Since, my
drawing ability gets worse every year, I thought I would try something
with a computer touch. I have taken a lot of pictures during my travels
the last few years. One thing that I have enjoyed doing is taking three
or four pictures at a site and trying to piece them all together into a
panoramic shot of some sort. This was the premise for these photos.
Priene
was the last stop on our last sight-seeing tour in Turkey
this summer. I was sitting at the theater (I happened to find a home
page about the
theater...) with my friend Eric very tired from a long hot day. I
suddenly got the wacky idea to take three pictures with me in them and
piece them all together (hey-it seemed like a revelation at the time).
So I ran around the theater and had Eric take pictures of me.
When I got the pictures back, I realized that it didn't turn out so
great. I was missing some holes of the full scene and I was almost too
small to be seen. I scanned them into a computer and tried to cut and
paste the holes up. Anyway, the result is not too spectacular, but I had
fun trying. Some day I will create a true work of art, then who'll be
laughing, eh?
