PACTour Pacific Crest

July 18th Diamond Lake, OR - Ashland...119...5,260’

Day 11 started with another long climb up to Crater lake. I decided to go hard and rode with Tom to the first stop. Crater Lake was amazing to see. We had a nice stop that overlooked the lake. I waited for Aaron and Jeanne to make it up to the stop. We took several pictures all around the lake. After one of the photo opportunities, I was not paying attention and ran over a large jagged rock that punctured my tube and put a huge gash in my tire. Luckily I was not on the side of the road too long before one of the rigs went by to give me a spare wheel. We stopped at the lodge on the lake and had some great coffee and enjoyed the view and sun. So I went from being the leader of the ride to DFL (dead f-ing last). This day once again had perfect roads with amazing scenery. The final downhill of the day was a little scary because of tight turns and steep sections. To add to danger they were repaving little sections while we were coming down. I also had a camper in front of me that was not going fast enough, so I had to pass them at about 40mph :) That evening we were in Ashland and we walked downtown about a mile to go to a really fancy Italian restaurant. Afterwards we found a great yogurt bar, called Yogurt Hut. No Tour coverage that night so we watch Comedy Central for a few minutes before falling asleep.
