Kaisan
Today was the end of the road for our brief Waseda alumni reunion. Euge and Yoko woke up early to get on trains for Frankfurt. They will fly out and be working in Tokyo before long. Kaori is heading west for more traveling before her job starts in New York. Midori and I wandered around a little in the morning before before boarding our own train for Salzburg. She was still undecided on her next destination, so she followed me.
Salzburger Afternoon
After finding no room in the inn, Midori decided to accompany me to Budapest on the night train as well. I gave her the quick walking tour toward downtown. I made it to the Amex office just in time to pick up another letter that was waiting for me. Sent off a couple letters as well, and then headed to a fast-food fish place that turned out to be quite good.
Yoho All Evening
Our train would not leave the station till 1am, so we stopped back at the International Youth Hostel. Midori picked up the messages that we had left during our foibled rendezvous of days past. Ran into a couple other Japanese women who have been studying in Britain. Midori was happy to talk to someone from near her home in Shizuoka. Traded more stories late into the night. In between conversations, I was watching the updates on CNN International. Jan Ullrich seems to be winning the Tour de France- wish I could have made it to see it. There was a gunman who stormed into the capitol building in DC and shot a couple guards there. The room almost quieted down for a moment as this "breaking news" was on. It wasn't long before everyone forgot about it, and soon the roar of drinking backpackers resumed. Everyone just passing the time and planning their next conquest. We boarded our train at one and moved on to Hungary.
