November 7: Abandon Hope for Future Plans

1:42pm

This has been my email signature for the last couple weeks. I thought it was funny. Some wacky lyrics from a "They Might Be Giants" song. However, I guess I scared a couple people. They thought that was their real horoscope or something. Anyway, things are looking up for my future, so I should find a more upbeat signature.

Arthur Andersen called with a job offer yesterday. They didn't give me a salary or any specifics. They said that we can discuss that at my office visit in a couple weeks. The fact that I have an "offer" is supposed to make me feel more relaxed during my visit on the 20th. However, there is something strange about the way the offer is not really an offer. Regardless, it gave me a bit of a rush last night. I turned up the radio and danced around for a bit until I realized that I needed to get back to my exam preparation.

Had a big exam last night for one of the harder accounting classes. I have thought more than once that I am really sick of accounting. Perhaps it isn't for me, etc. However, I survived another tough exam and am a little closer to accepting a job with a "Big Six" firm.

Another weekend is here and I am ready to relax. But then I think how much I relax all week long. I missed class again on Monday and went to a movie on Wednesday. Then last night I screwed around with my home page. Tonight I am going to the Japanese conversation table and on Sunday I have to watch the TV version of "Into Thin Air." I just finished reading this book about climbing Everest. Considering all of this, one would think I have lots of free time. No, I just waste my study time.

I am excited about the new home page though. It is about a possible trip to Europe. Realizing that I might actually have a job and a steady stream of income in the future (not to mention a lack of long vacations) I decided that I should start planning the mother of all trips. Merry and I talked about doing a trip in the summer of 1998. She can borrow on her student loans and I can get some advance pay from my future employer. We invited a bunch of our friends to come along and join us in Europe. It is all a big dream, but something might come of it. It would be really cool if we could get a few people together.

Anyway, that is the news for this week. I have to work at the lab a little over the weekend, but hopefully I can get some homework done too. Looking forward to my last three office visits. Then I will have the Thanksgiving break in Colorado to make my career decision. Once again things are falling into place for me. Life is good.
