Well our tradition busy audit season supposedly ended on March 15. I am only scheduled for forty hours per week until next January. Of course that doesn't mean that I won't have to work close to fifty or sixty hours for the next month or so yet, but it is nice that there is an official end to the madness. Honestly, it wasn't all that bad. I mean, there are other things that I would rather do with my life, but it was not unbearable. It is very easy to work a lot of hours while out of town. We keep so busy all day that before I know it, it is like six o'clock. Actually, it seems like productivity goes down after seven or eight, but we worked till nine or ten a few times. The nice thing is that the company pays for all the meals, practically. I made so much money from per diems and mileage reimbursement stuff. Sure my car has over 12,000 miles in six months, but the company practically pays all my car payments with their 31c per mile. Anyway... BUT, I am on these Japanese clients now. Most of our tradition 12/31 audits are done, but for some reason, Japanese subsidiaries have later year-ends like 1/31 and 2/28. This means that I get to have an extended busy season along with the other people in the Japanese group. None of the Japanese people seem to mind because they know that they are better off than they would be if they worked back home in Japan. But me, I can't stop thinking that there are plenty of other jobs out there that pay plenty of money and don't require this sacrifice of personal life. I have learned a ton, though, over the past few months. I have come a long way since my consulting days. I am getting comfortable talking about accounting software systems, expenditure cycles, and shipping terms, etc. It's not such a bad job afterall. I think they wanted me to work this weekend. The senior was hinting at the fact that he would be in the office over the weekend working on some stuff, but I wasn't going to volunteer. I feel sorry for the guy, but enough is enough. I will work my fifty hours Monday through Friday. If possible... Been having a little fun on the internet lately with my free time. Man, you can sell just about anything on that Ebay. People are insane. I am selling stuff that is ten years old and making a good profit. The whole thing has inspired some friends and I to think about our own little web business. It is all still top secret, but it could be kinda successful if we decide to do it up right. That is the excitement in my life. Later. |
