CHICAGO, IL (BR&IN)-A bicycle commuter was killed in downtown Chicago in an apparent case of road rage, according to the Chicago Sun Times. Thomas McBride, 28, was riding to work April 26 when he was cut off by a Chevy Tahoe sport utility vehicle, the newspaper reported. As the vehicle passed, it was reported that McBride banged on the side to warn the driver he was too close. Witnesses told police the motorist then pulled over to let McBride pass and struck him from behind several times. When McBride finally fell to the ground the motorist drove over the cyclist and sped away. McBride died before reaching the hospital. The newspaper reported that the driver of the vehicle, Carnell Fitzpatrick, 28, turned himself in a few hours later. He told police he did so after noticing his front license plate was missing. Police found the plate under McBride's body. Fitzpatrick was charged with first-degree murder and held without bond until his court appearance. ©Bicycle Retailer & Industry News. |
