March 3: Waseda

Today was Goldman Sachs' Waseda recruiting day. It was the largest showing thus far with nearly 400 Waseda-ites showing up the event.... and well, it was really daunting. IT's only Waseda that you see more wild-mannered characters which roamed about the hallways smoking... and basically, a lot of attitude and characters (or there lack of) that were there for the show. Waseda -- like Berkeley -- is a large campus... and it's a lot of fun to meet a great hodge podge of people. Goldman -- on the flipside -- is a select class of individuals, and it's really wacky to see things inside out...especially when you're recruiting... coz you have to judge whether you're material or not...

anyhow, Waseda... was a moment to recollect and come across old faces. To me, it was a wild bash of a party uncovering old faces and giving away some meishis. As a HR member, I really see the downfall to this, as it's a quick way to lose borderline friends. But... I guess that's another story...

Whatever the case... it was a great party... and my recruiting video finally came to an end!!!! I rushed over to the sound studio and then to the editing... to finish my 5 million yen project. It's quite someting when you know that you've got 5 mill to play and be creative to create whatever you want recruiting-wise. I'm up 'til lovely 2am, and I'm happy to say this bloody thing is going to get its Virgin Screening externally on Monday. I've gotten a seal of approval from the two heads of recruiting... along with the president of our company -- even though they don't understand the language -- and well, one way to put it is that good job... but it also shows how pathetic our HR department is... when you've got a new grad without any training/background/orientation whose helming all of these efforts...and the president of the company is breathing on your back to make sure that you'll stick around.

So goes life at Goldman Sachs -- or my current definition of life as it currently stands by default.

best regards,
Euge
