July 15th Mt. Hood, OR - Detroit Lakes...72...3,845’
Day 8 was our first cold day. We slept in to try to wait for warmer weather and to sleep off the hangovers. It was still cold and foggy when we started down the 6 mile road that goes to Timberline lodge. This day we rode with Brian's wife Carrie. She had fresh legs and rode strong all day. It was our easiest day with only 74 miles and mostly downhill. I know I keep saying this but the roads are unbelievable. We got onto a section of road today that was a 1 lane wide and perfectly paved. It was winding through the trees for miles and miles. Truly some of the best riding I have ever done. Aaron took a video of part of the descent on this road:
Tonight we are in a small town on a lake, Detroit Lakes. This morning Brian, Carrie, Aaron and I all swam at the lodge. When we got to the hotel tonight was all went for a run. It was our own little triathlon. Also the last 2 nights I have been teaching everyone P90X :) Life is good. The next 3 days are all over 110 miles.
