July 16th Detroit Lakes, OR - Bend...117...7,580’

Day 9 was 117 miles to Bend Oregon. It was a really nice day. Brian and Carrie joined us for the nice part of the route on 242. Brian and I went up the climb hard, that boy is strong. The climb was very beautiful with tons of switchbacks. The top of the climb looked like another planet. There was a huge lava field that went on for miles. There were dead trees still standing where they were burnt. Brian wasn't sure when it went off but said it had been a few hundred years. We were right by the 3 sisters (mountains) and they were breathtaking. The descent was fun but not as twisty as the climb. Before we got to town we rode right past the place that Brian and Carrie were married. When we got to town we had one last beer with Brian and Carrie before they had to head back home. It was really fun having them along for a few days. Bend is a really nice town and would be a great place to spend a couple days. PAC Tour had us in a really interesting resort that was an old Catholic school. Some of the crew members stayed in the Nunnery. We actually were put into a fancy hotel across the street because school was full. That night Aaron and I decided to go watch see Ted at the theater. It was a mile away but worth the walk. Overall it was a great day.
