May 15: Sayonara

6pm

Had a little party last night to mark the end of Seinfeld and the end of a long undergrad for me. It was really my first official apartment party. I lived in a cramped dorm for my first three years of school, so I never had much space or desire to have a big wacky party. Anyway, last night was fun. Just a few of my Japanese friends and a couple people that I didn't really know, just to make it interesting. I ordered some pizzas and they brought the drinks. There was lots to talk about and Seinfeld was not much of a bore either. It was a nice way to wrap things up this semester.

But there is still a lot to do. I have been slowly moving things out over the last couple weeks. Since I live nearby, it is easy to send a load of stuff home with my parents now and then. However, no matter how close I feel I am to finishing, the task just does not end. I don't own any big stereo or TV, or any furniture at all. I do have a bread maker and rice cooker, but even that is the extent of my appliances. However, it is just amazing how much stuff I have. It is almost embarrassing. It is nice to have a mobile society, but it is not so convenient to be moving around every year or two. Besides, if I am going to carry everything on my back or my bike for the next three months, what is all that extra stuff for?

Still not quite realizing that it is all over. I guess tomorrow when I get up there for the big speech, then I will finally know. I am getting a little nervous about speaking. I have made some changes to the speech, so more or less it says what I want to get across. I hope that people listen to a little of it.

Well, I am feeling a little worn out today. Trying to finish up the last details as I move from undergraduate life to wayfaring traveler life. Gotta finish moving out and packing up. Went to a nice reception tonight for the honors program. Talked to a couple professors and two of the administrators who really helped me get all the scholarships and awards that I didn't deserve. Thanks Kimiko and Sonia. Moving on...
