Heading out on Trip 1: New Mexico

10-07-02

Joan and I take Mom out shopping and we each buy her an outfit for her birthday. She is doing pretty well except that she has a hard time getting around. We pushed her in the wheel chair in the store. Then we spent 2 hours eating and drinking coffee and TALKING at Panerafs. Jack and I left their house in time to eat supper at Michaelfs. We finally get to eat the supper that Vanessa started for us last Friday. It was filet mignons that I won for selling insurance on my last loans at the bank.

Jack took our Trailblazer to ElPaso to get the left turn signal indicator light fixed. But it started working before he got there so it was sort of a wasted trip. However, he did pick up a check for $500 rebate that they failed to give to us when we bought the vehicle. Then he also wanted to see his mom. She is eve worse. Her walking is getting worse. He called Debra and she said the doctor doesnft know what it could be. She could have Parkinsonfs. I think her sister, Leatha, has that. I didnft go because I have to babysit for Ava when Vanessa goes to work. I clean the dining room, kitchen, laundry room and our bedroom. I fix tuna helper and strawberry muffins for supper. Ava loves the tuna helper and even eats some muffin. I call Marie Gassaway and tell her that we will not be coming back to LeRoy to spend the night at her house. Then I rock Ava to sleep since I will not get to see her for a while. How much fun it is to hold her in my arms.

I thought we were getting up early to leave for Colorado. But Jack informs me that we have had a change in plans. He wants to reroute dome duct work in Michaelfs theater room. So Vanessa, Ava and I go to the library and shop for some groceries. When we get home Jack decides that we are going to leave. Vanessa had decided that she would fix clam chowder and sloppy joes for supper because I gassumedh that we werenft going to leave until morning?BUT. We have a bite for lunch and hit the road due west at 1pm on route 151. We go cross country until we get to Cedar Rapids where we head south and catch I-80 west of Iowa City IA. We get to Lincoln at 9pm and spend the night at the Sleep Inn by the airport. This is our first stay in one and we like it. It has everything that the Holiday Inn Express has and it is cheaper. So we will probably be staying at more of them. We get a sandwich at the gfood courth across the street at Quizmos. So ends a long day.

10-10-02

After breakfast we head for Frisco. We stop at Hastings exit for gas, GOOD coffee and Cinnachips! We get to Frisco around 5pm. We take care of the mail, do the wash and take care of what has to be done. I had to get the new brochure to the copy shop along with a letter to previous renters so I can get it in the mail. They We have a big job running so I canft pick my copies until tomorrow. We then decide to go for nauhos at Fiesta Jallisco. They are really good except that we also order chicken also. So we had way tooooooo much food.

10-11-02

We get up and start preparing for our trip out West. We finally are ready to leave. We pick up the brochures and letters from the copy shop. Then we stop by the post office and bank. We leave town around 11:30am. We are quite hungry but there is no restaurants to be found. The road is quite desolate in southern Colorado. We finally find a little gThaih restaurant out in the middle of nowhere. Some little old Thai lady is running it. She tells me that she thinks I will like one of her specials. So I try it and I really like it. Lots of people stop in while we are there for various things?bathroom, ice cream, hamburgers and Thai food. I canft believe that this woman can make a living, but if you are the only restaurant for miles, I guess you could make it work! I drive after lunch. We get to White Rock around 6pm. Jennifer Macy, Jackfs cousin, that we are going to spend the night with will not be home until around 7:30pm. So I manage to get my 36 letters to previous renters mailed. Jennifer finally gets home around 8pm with her friend, Josh. They order pizza and go get it. The Pizza Hut made a mistake in their order so they are now going to get 2 pizzas. Jack and I arenft very hungry after our big Thai lunch. We get to bed at 11pm. We sleep in Peg and Donfs bed. Jennifer bought this 2-bedroom condo a couple years ago.

10-12-02

We get up and on the road by 6am. We eat breakfast at McDonaldfs in Bernalillo. The hot air balloons are up over Albuquerque. We get off the Tramway exit like we were told to get to Peg and Donfs motorhome, however a truck has the lane blocked in the direction that we are supposed to go. So we try to find out how to get through to there road via another route. Not too possible since the road is on Indian territory. So we have to go to the mountain, which is opposite the balloons, to get on it. We finally arrive at Pegfs and the balloons are just gorgeous. We stand and watch them for quite a while. But Peg and Don havenft had breakfast so we go to the Sandia Casino so they can eat. Jack and I wander around the place while they eat. Then Peg gambles on a machine while I watch. She even puts money in so I can play. But I lost. She did win $100 and took it with her. We decide to go for a bike ride along the Rio Grande. We stop by Wendyfs for a bite to eat first. Don and I ride nearly all the trail. Jack and Peg ride part of it and turn around. There are many thorns on the path that tires tend to pick up. Well, we werenft any exception. Don got one but had self-sealing gel tubes so it resealed. I pulled one out of my back tire and heard the air coming out so I put the thorn back in. Miraculously it held the air for the next 5+ miles. Don couldnft believe that I could be so lucky as he kept an eye on it all the way back. Jack wasnft so lucky as he had two flats with no pump. Fortunately Peg and Jack each had a new tube and a nice man stopped to help them with a pump. We met Jennifer and Josh at a Chinese restaurant on Central Ave. We all went back to the motor home. We went to the casino for a while. I lost $10 on the nickel machine. We spent the night with Peg in the parking lot of the Sandia Casino.

10-13-02

We went to the breakfast buffet at the casino. We gambled a bit and I lost another $10. Then we went to the bike shop to buy more tubes. It doesnft open till noon so I call my momm for her birthday which was yesterday. All is well with them. I find a pair of Nike tennis shoes for $30 that should have cost $80?what a bargain. We stop at Subway for a sandwich. Don and I go for a bike ride to UNM campus, through downtown, Oldtown and back on the trail we were on yesterday. Fun time! We go to eat at Los Cuartes. Such good Mexican food. Mrs. Morey told us about it a couple years ago when we were here. We go back to the motor home and play cards-65. We play till midnight. So ends another fun day.
