Thankful

Yesterday I had my first successful lesson (stop me if you've already heard this). The JTE and struggled for an hour trying to think of a lesson for the first grade. We came up with absolute crap. There was one more hour before I had to go to the class, so I sat and pondered, and actually came up with something. It was so stupid and so simple, and yet so brilliant!

I copied sentences from the dialogue in the book. The kids has to find their match and then read the sentence to me. Then they had to decide which character had been quoted. So simple, yet so effective. It was easy to prepare, the kids loved it, and they didn't get out of control either. Woo Hoo! Too bad they can't all be success stories.

So in celebration of the success, last night I went to the store and bought meat (at half price because it was closing time!). (I suspect the other JETs will find this more humorous than the rest of you). After that I treated myself to two rounds of Print Club- one with Pepsi Man, the other with a large mosquito.

I have to comment about one of my JTEs. Miss Arai is a great person, but we suck in the classroom. We are so unprepared, and don't communicate our points very well. The ichi-nen-sei classes could whoop her 2nd years any day. They can bearly speak in English. Group reading is an utter disaster. The girls are totally inaudible, and they can't stay together when reading. So if that isn't bad enough, she seems to have gastric problems or something. She is always letting out silent farts. How do I know they are silent? You tell me. It adds more chaos to the class.
