There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly

Last night I woke up witha terrible fit of coughing. This is strange because I haven't been sinck, and don't think I am becoming sick. I sure haven't felt like coughing. So why did I wake up coughing? I think it is because the bugs still haven't died from the cold. I think a very adventurous spider or insect decided to check out the warmth of my bed. Then it got really courageous and took a walk on my face and into my mouth. Somehow my body took this as a signal to swallow (or the bug decided to explore). Thus I swallowed a bug and didn't do a very good job doing it. My body decided it wanted to reject it, but it was too late. So I woke up in a fit of coughing, trying to vacate the foreign object from my body. (It sure felt a lot like the time I got a bug lodged in my throat on my ride home from school - never yawn at dusk when you're in a field).

Other news...

Yesterday was a bit challenging to teach. One of my 2-nen sei students had a parent die on Sat. I guess it was rather sudden. She died of cancer, but didn't know it until very recently. So the attitude was very somber. Many of the teachers and students were going to funeral that day. I felt bad being genki. the kids were obviously troubled. It was especially bad because their midterms are Thursday, so they are also worrying about them.

But the day got better because it was teacher sports day. The kids left after an early lunch and the teachers put on thier polyester jogging suits. We played softball and soft vollyball against the elementry teachers in the area. I just about died wearing a t-shirt and thin black wind pants, so I can't image how the Japanese didn't faint from the polyester. It was a good time and we got lots of treats afterwards.

I must get ready for school.
