> GENERAL SITUATION
>
> * The results of the Indonesian elections have been postponed and will
> not be officially announced for sometime probably two (2) to three (3)
> weeks. Certain provinces demanding a revote are being given fresh
> ballots alleging corrupt practices committed by Golkar, demonstrations
> are predicted in the coming weeks due to the slow returns and
> substantial differences in the predicted election results. Due to the
> format of the elections i.e. proportional representation combined with
> the alleged vote rigging, intimidation and bribery, Golkar could secure
> more seats in the MPR / DPR than the vote percentage actually reflects,
> this fact obviously will not be viewed positively in the coming weeks,
> especially if parties aligned with PDI Renate on previously agreed
> coalitions.
>
> * The risk of some form of civil unrest is currently rated as LOW in
> Jakarta, however the potential for an increase in threat level is a high
> probability. Meanwhile a number of areas in the rest of the country are
> given a risk rating of HIGH.
